Sullivan Catskills Community Invited to “Meet at the Market” During National Farmers’ Market Week August 4th through August 10th

LIBERTY, NY – The Sullivan Catskills Farmers’ Markets collective of 11 individual markets is inviting the community to join in the celebration of farmers’ markets during National Farmers’ Market Week, August 4th through the 10th. The markets have special activities or events scheduled like live music and cooking demos.

This year, the focus is on the many reasons why everyone should “meet at the market.” From meeting wellness goals to meeting a budget, meeting friendly farmers to meeting standards for quality…the farmers’ market is where it all happens. See the 6 reasons why, here.

Another highlight during Market Week is accessibility during these times of inflation and rising food costs. Fresh, locally grown produce and other goods are often comparable in price to that found at grocers. Plus, many markets participate in programs that make this high-quality food more accessible than ever to seniors, those receiving benefits such as SNAP/EBT or WIC. For example, an individual using SNAP/EBT at the market can double the amount they can spend through FreshConnect coupons.

“Farmers’ markets are at the heart of our community, and all are welcome to ‘meet at the market.’ During Market Week, our goal is to bring everyone together to experience the many benefits that Sullivan Catskills Farmers’ Markets have to offer: fun for all ages, community connection, fresh food, friendly farmers, and more,” said Melinda Meddaugh, Agriculture and Food Systems Issue Leader of Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County.
